When asked why Adam Lambert has been booted off multiple ABC programs this month, Kara DioGuardi channeled Bill Clinton. She basically said:

It’s the economy, stupid.

“We’re living in a pretty bad economic time, so they have to do what they have to do to keep their advertisers,” DioGuardi told E! News. “Networks are doing what they think their viewers want and don’t want, so it’s just budgetary.”

Lambert, of course, found himself in hot water after he performed an excessively racy rendition of “For Your Entertainment” at the American Music Awards. Since then, ABC has canceled two of his previously-booked appearances on its network.

Many fans are citing an unfair double standard against the singer.

If they boycott the network, ABC might really need to worry about its advertisers!

The American Idol judge, who returns for her second season on the panel next month, also defended the crooner.

“We always know he’s going to shock us, right? He’s going to wow us and give us the unexpected, and that’s his thing…That’s what we look for.”

In other words, ABC: you can’t book Adam Lambert for a gig and then act surprised when he flaunts his sexuality.

DioGuardi knows a thing or two about that, as well: she stripped down to her bikini during the show’s May finale; and said husband Mike McCuddy sees even more than that at home:

“I give him his own personal videos - sans the bikini.”

It’s not as interesting as gossip-craving readers might desire, but it does make sense: Rachel Uchitel canceled her press conference yesterday because of fear, secrets and simply wanting to get out of the spotlight as much as she can.

After phone calls back and forth between Rachel, Tiger and their respective camps, she pulled the plug on a news conference she had planned Thursday.

There were rumors Woods offered her million to shut her yap, but there was no such deal made. A source said: “It was absolutely not about money.”

Rachel Uchitel became “scared for her safety” since she knows so much about Tiger woods, his alleged affairs and a variety of other personal matters.

Tiger confided in Rachel, according to reliable sources: She knows specifics about “other women,” as well as info about Tiger’s marriage to Elin Woods.

Rachel does not fear Tiger himself, but more and more people are getting caught in this net by the day, and she doesn’t want anything to do with them.

Instead of trying to cash in on her dalliances with the world’s most famous athlete, Rachel Uchitel wants to disappear for a while. Who’d have guessed?

In a Good Morning America preview of his full 20/20 interview airing tonight on ABC, Chris Brown faces tough questions about his infamous assault on Rihanna.

While the network has been criticized for yanking Adam Lambert appearances but giving Brown a chance to speak, they aren’t throwing him softballs at least.

Robin Roberts played a clip of Rihanna’s 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer, which aired last month, and in which Ri detailed the night of the February attack.

Brown was asked to respond to Rihanna’s claim in the interview that he “blacked out” and “had no soul” in his eyes. He was clearly saddened listening to this.

“I was wrong for what I did,” Brown told Roberts. I can promise that it’s not something that I look past or look over … It’s something that’s really touchy.”

“I’m really sorry for what went down and what happened.”

Chris Brown will be getting grilled on ABC tonight.

Brown has already apologized on CNN’s Larry King Live, as well as a string of other media appearances, but has also been accused of being nonchalant.

Can he really “come clean” if no one believes his apologies are heartfelt?

He promised that despite perceptions of his insincerity, he’s “hurting inside” and that what he did to Rihanna is “devastating,” but said he’s human too.

He clearly means that he’s human in the sense of his reactions and how he copes with the aftermath - not in the sense that he’s excusing what he did.
